Recently, our company had the pleasure of visiting the beautiful coffee plantation Finca La Laja in the Agaete Valley on the island of Gran Canaria. As avid coffee lovers, we were thrilled to see first-hand how coffee is grown on Grand Canaria. In this blog, we will share our personal experiences with you. So join us on a journey to the beautiful coffee plantations of the Agaete Valley and discover the magic of this unique part of Europe.

Driving to the Agaete Valley is an exhilarating experience not to be missed. Indeed, this picturesque valley lies on the northwest coast of the island and is known for its lush greenery, stunning mountain views and typical Spanish villages. As you make your way through the rugged terrain, you'll be treated to panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and the surrounding countryside. And then, after driving some 70 kilometers along country lanes and bumpy roads, there, in one of Gran Canaria's most idyllic valleys, lie some of the world's most beautiful coffee plantations.

This lush green valley, with its fertile soil and ideal growing conditions, provides the perfect environment for growing high-quality coffee beans. Agaete's coffee plantations are known for their distinct flavor and aroma, which are the result of the unique climate and growing techniques used by local farmers. A visit to these plantations is not only a treat for coffee lovers, but also an opportunity to witness the beauty of the valley and learn about the rich cultural history of coffee production in the region.

Upon arrival, we were immediately greeted by friendly staff who were happy to show us around the plantation. We began the tour with a walk through the green rolling fields of coffee plants and learned about the different types of coffee grown at Finca La Laja. The passionate workers explained how they carefully select the best coffee beans and oversee the entire process of growing, harvesting and processing to ultimately ensure the highest quality coffee.

We also had the opportunity to witness the roasting process and learn about the different techniques used to achieve the perfect roast. The staff was knowledgeable and passionate about coffee, and it was fascinating to hear about the different flavor profiles and aromas that can be achieved through different roasting methods.

Of course, a visit to a coffee plantation is not complete without tasting the finished product. We were treated to a coffee tasting, where we tasted different types of coffee and learned about the unique qualities of each variety. It was again amazing to taste the subtle differences in taste and aroma, and it really highlighted the importance of the coffee brewing process.

In addition to the coffee culture, the plantation itself, with its historic buildings and typical Spanish details and nearby Spanish vineyards, was a wonderful experience to see...the beautiful natural, typically volcanic landscape and friendly atmosphere provided a much needed break from our busy work schedules. It was a great opportunity for team building and bonding.

All in all, our trip to Finca La Laja was an unforgettable experience. It was inspiring to see the dedication and care that goes into producing high-quality coffee, and it was a great reminder of the importance of taking a moment to appreciate the finer things in life. If you want to take the opportunity to visit a coffee plantation in Europe, we highly recommend it!
